The New Normal Tanks

The New Normal, a show about two gay men having a family, was cancelled after just one season, along with a slew of new shows featuring gay characters, as HuffPo Gay Voices columnist Derek Harley notes.

Possibly the networks overestimated the appeal of gay themed shows (given that gays are not 25 percent of the population as most people think, but 2 around percent). Or possibly gays really are the new normal and so the frisson is lost.

Or perhaps it was such a badly written show that even extremely pro-gay people like me couldn't be bothered to watch it.

or more likely, this show was only one or two jokes, and they exhausted the situation of the comedy.

Or perhaps mass media **promotion** of queer sexuality is the new normal, and the frisson is lost.

Isn't it a bit late, though? - For people now to begin recognizing that Homosexuality is not normal, or that it should never be sponsored or supported by Christians, or Jews, or Muslims... or anyone who believes what God says? I was a victim of Homosexual Priests and "Brothers" within the Catholic School system: That means a male teacher must have been Homosexual, to want to grope or bugger boys in the first place. By ignoring that fist principle, left the Churches open to very large lawsuits, and now the State wanted to follow suit, thinking that would never be repeated? ... HA!

The New Normal just wasn't a good show. Hate to break it to you, but gays don't just watch shows because there are gay characters on them. We tend to like them to have some substance too. "Or possibly gays really are the new normal and so the frisson is lost." - was there ever "frisson" over gay characters on TV? I think there may have been for "Will and Grace" and as you recall that show didn't too to bad. You know, all 8 SEASONS of it.

Good to hear that normalizing intentional motherlessness doesn't equal good ratings and advertising income. A glimmer of hope?

Wishful thinking Maggie. How about all the hetero-focused shows that got axed? Did producers over estimate the appeal of straight characters? And what's the point of your 25% comment? You can't possibly be suggesting that 25% of television characters are gay, can you?

Of course it is not "NORMAL" to be homosexual, and should never BE that way... How can God lead us to redemption, and Earthly practice of morallity and ethics, if we carry on with deviated sexual lusts that has nothing to do with necessity for pro-creation? - Thus, homosexuals of either gender not in a normal relationship, with a mother and father dispersing diferring, but balancing viewpoints to any children they have in care, will only educate such child to be unable to use intellect in a balanced way.
