Act Now to Fight the Repeal of DOMA!

Just 15 years ago, President Clinton signed into law the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).  It was passed by huge bipartisan majorities. It is the only federal law to protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman and clarifies that no state can be forced to recognize same-sex marriages.

Now, Democrats in the Senate are acting to repeal DOMA–the measure has already passed out of the Judiciary Committee as part of a strategy to weaken traditional marriage.  By passing a repeal of DOMA in the Senate (even if it couldn’t pass the Republican House), these proponents of same-sex marriage are hoping to persuade the Supreme Court to invalidate DOMA.  They believe that this would help the Court believe that Americans no longer care about marriage and that it’s safe to impose same-sex marriage on all 50 states.

But they forgot about one thing: You.  Acting now to defend DOMA and traditional marriage.  Sign the petition below and let the Senate know that there is still a strong and united force ready to defend traditional marriage.

Dear Senator:

I am writing to you today to oppose the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act.  The institution of marriage as a partnership of one man and one woman must be defended as the cornerstone of our society, and I oppose any efforts to undermine traditional marriage and impose same-sex marriage.  Please demonstrate that you are committed to preserving marriage and vote against the repeal of DOMA.

Thank you,

  1. We are tired of the Socialist, A-moral leanings of Democrats in Government. If you do not change, all of you will be thrown out in 2012 and will not be a force again for decades. You have shown yourselves to be Anti-American and radical beyond our wildest expectations.

    • Do not fret, Eachj person who would sign such a illecit Bill will have to answer to GOD . Leviticus 18 Chapter makes it very clear that a man lying with another man is an abominaton to GOD. JESUS will pass judgement so we will not have to. Just let your Senator how objectional this is.

    • We can all kick back and blame a lot of people for the moral decay of our once great nation but I really blame the religious organizations mostly. Where was the outrage from the pulpits when all this was going on. The priests were involved in their own scandals. Evangelists we trusted were caught in motel rooms with whores. It goes on and on. Gods messengers have failed to preach God’s word or set Godly examples so how is their flock suppose to know right from wrong?

  2. Politicians need to be working on a hell of a lot besides doing anything with DOMA. We are no longer are a country ruled by the people and for the people. We are a country ruled by the rich elite for the rich elite. Politicians do not listen unless there is money being given to them.

    • The entire democrat organization poured all their money and people into the races of the Kennedy seat, the Weiner seat and into Wisconson. It got them zero. We know who to vote for based on how much money is put into the race and how vicious the attacks (lies) are. I’m not sure just what kind of belief system is required to believe such nonsense.

  3. If you repeal DOMA you will put an end to the United States of America that we have known and loved for over 200 years.
Please think before you act to repeal it, our children and grand children’s future depends on it.
    Thank you,

    • There is no credible, scientific evidence that granting equality would cause the demise of this — or any other — nation.

Over the last 12 years, 21 states covering 130 million Americans chose some form of marriage equality: 7 have same-sex marriage (CT, DC, IA, MA, NH, NY, VT), 5 have civil union (DE, HI, IL, NJ, RI), and 9 have domestic partnership (CA, CO, MD, ME, NV, NM, OR, WA, WI).

Facsism, however, could destroy the United States.

Historian Robert Paxton defines fascism as “a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victimhood, and by compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion.”

      • Why does the term “equality” only apply to same-sex? Liberals would have us believe that “same-sex” is the only group being excluded from marriage. It sounds like they’re not really interested at all in equality, but rather preferential treatment for one group only, out of countless other groups and possible combinations that fall outside the definition of one man & one woman.

  4. ‘Marriage’ as an institution between one man and one woman, should remain so. If people of the same sex wish to cohabitate, then that is their own business. They should be allowed rights that include those by which committed heterosexual partnerships enjoy, however actual ‘marriage’ should remain an exclusive right for the purpose of which it was originally ordained…the legal and binding union of one male and one female to live together as man and wife.

    • Numerous believers in various deities have long supported the repeal of DOMA.

Remember that your deity is not everyone else’s deity, your bible isn’t in everyone else’s bedroom, and your sect’s beliefs as not universal.

Federal courts continue finding DOMA to be unconstitutional, and all of the attempted defenses — hatred, superstition, religious bigotry, etc. — failed.

      • It’s quite obvious you are a gay man spreading more liberal propaganda here. You blame the Bible for the definition of marriage as “one man & one woman”, when the fact is that this definition has always been the same throughout the world, even in atheist cultures. So your premise is refuted. Only a federal court that is infiltrated by liberals would find DOMA unconstitutional. Claiming that hatred, superstition, and religious bigotry are the “attempted defenses” is a total fabrication and deliberate dishonesty. Your argument fails.

  5. It has been said all that evil needs to succeed is for good men and women to do nothing. If you don’t have money to donate to support the people who represent your core beliefs in our political system, then write a letter, make a phone call, sign a petition, whatever else is at your hand to do. The future of the great nation that has afforded all of us the life we cherish is at risk; we must not be silent!! We are accountable—–especially if we do nothing. Do not think there are enough other people out there who WILL do something so that that excuses you from action—–ESPECIALLY CASTING YOUR VOTE during elections!!

  6. I am sick and tired of all the crap Obama and the Democrats are doing to help get votes. All this is political and that is all you can say about it.
All these states voting the rights for fagets to get married. The Bible states that Marriage is between one man and one woman not men and men and women.
I don’t care what they say they were not born this way. SICKENING JUST SICKENING.

    • The rights to life, liberty, happiness, and equal protection are in the U.S. Constitution, whereas the superstitions arising from your religious sect books are not universal, and have no force of law.

Every major religion now has clergy who bless and perform same-sex weddings, and you have no power to outlaw other people, their beliefs, or their religions.

Abundant evidence proving the biological origins of sexual orientation has been available for years to anyone who cares to read it.

  7. My family and I are Christans so, we oppose the efforts of the amoral, anti-American Democrats to force same-sex marriage on the rest of the country which, as you know, was founded on Judaic -Christian principles. Therefore, we OPPOSE any effort to undermine the God-ordained traditional marriage covenant between one man and one woman and impose same-sex marriage on those who oppose it, which is the MAJORITY of Americans! Please don’t allow the radical left to destroy what’s left of this once great country and our traditional Christian teachings and principles! Please, vote AGAINST the repeal of DOMA.

    • I agree 100% that we should vote against the repeal of DOMA. Hopefully it’s not too late. May God bless the United States of America. Don’t forget to vote in 2012. It’s less than a year away. Never, never, never give up!

    • You misunderstand both the current and the proposed legislation.

There has never been any proposal to force same-sex marriage upon anyone. The only proposal is to allow same-sex marriage for those who choose it, just as we now allow opposite-sex marriage for those who choose it.

Extending fairness from some citizens to all citizens poses no risk. The idea that equality could destroy a nation or a religion is the type of fantasy that appeals most often to the ignorant, fearful, homophobic, and/or fascist. Look up the words if you need to.

      • No one is saying that same-sex marriage is being forced on anyone. Just as no one is forcing you to marry someone of the opposite sex. Why is it that your definition of “fairness & equality” ONLY applies to homosexuals? We must wonder why, because the answer is important, and the entire gay agenda depends upon it. Your use of the terms “ignorant, fearful, homophobic, and/or fascist” is deliberately misleading and totally unfounded. Your intellectual dishonesty has been duly noted.

  8. Our country is in a sad moral state. Securing votes is now more important than holding on to values that have made us a great nation. There was a time when we were proud to include “under God” in our pledge to this country and print it on our money. Now our president says, “America is no longer a Christian nation.” He has revealed the sentiments that are driving the liberal agenda. The confusion of same sex marriage violates nature itself and erodes further the responsible roles of a father and mother in guiding the next generation.

    • Homosexuality and bisexuality do not violate any aspect of nature, and they occur throughout the natural and human kingdoms, in all observed groups.

Parental roles are not made responsible or made irresponsible by virtue of gender. Every credible scientific study of parenting and gender shows that although 2 parents are better than 1 for economic reasons, the parents’ genders has no affect on the children’s quality of life.

America was never a “Christian nation”. The nation never belonged to any sect at all. Some Americans are Christians, but many are not, and no one is authorized to impose their sect upon anyone else.

      • “Homosexuality and bisexuality do not violate any aspect of nature, and they occur throughout the natural and human kingdoms, in all observed groups.”
Murder and theft also occur in nature, but that doesn’t make them good for society. But even so, your argument doesn’t even apply to the issue. You are attempting to refute a different argument, which is just more typical liberal dishonesty. Any “scientific study” that a biased liberal such as you mentions will seem credible only to YOU, as long as it at least appears to support your deceptive reasoning.

  9. Since the US was founded on some core beliefs, one being the union of a man and a woman who would raise their children in a spiritual home iand this s what I would like to see our nation continue to honor this tradition.

    • Wendy, please point out the clause in the either the Declaration of Independance or the Constetution that gives that as a core for founding this country. The liberals I work with will not belief me when I tell them that. Thank you.

    • Re-read the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and Bill of Rights, and you’ll find that this nation was never fouded upon any of the things that you imagine.

Your notions of marriage and spirituality stem from religious sects to which most people don’t belong.

Most major religions now have clergy who bless and perform same-sex unions, and no citizen is empowerd to interfere with that.

People who want to live in a country where everyone else’s sect is outlawed should consider Iran, where teens who go on dates frowned upon by the only legal religion get publicly whipped — and then executed — by their own government. (“Violence Against Sexual Minorities in Iran,” Human Rights Watch, 29 December 2010, 108 pages.)

  10. it’s an abomanation to god and a slap in the face to america to allow men to marry men. this should be stopped what happen to good ol’ american morals?

      • Boone you are so right. We have turned into another Sodom and Gomorrah and you know what happened there. .God made Adam and Eve,not Adam ans Steve, and please tell me how they can go forth and multiply. There are no MORALS in this country anymore and anyone who reads the BIBLE will know that it won’t be long before Jesus returns, His time is not ours, but this is the beginning of the end. He is a patient God and wants all of us to come to him, but I really think He will not be pouring out anymore blessings here or anywhere else in this world. IT has just too much immorality.

  11. Why is it that our institutions and “conventions” (Christian-Judaic foundation, “in God we trust”, Christian, Hebrew and other religious symbols in our cemeteries, “God” engravings on monuments and buildings, “so help me God” in sworn oaths, deletion of Catholic religious symbols in Catholic universities, DOMA, Christian and Judaic Holidays, etc, etc.) that built, evolved and sustained this nation as the greatest in the history of the world for nearly a quarter of a millenium under such fierce attack by the progressive liberal minority????

When we allow a 14% minority (“unbelievers”) to drive the social makeup and direction of this country we are fools !

We need to follow the leadership of Australia and invite these folks to leave and move to the Utopia they envision, as soon as possible !!!

  12. For a few decades now, this country has been sliding down the pit of evil. And that is because we, the people, have not spoken up and defended whatever rights the liberals were trying to take away from us.
Since Obama came into power, most on the left have taken him to be the Messiah. NOT SO! He is the epitome of EVIL!!
Even though he is not really in charge, (he is the puppet being controlled by the puppet masters) he is nevertheless the president of the U.S., and so his awe-stricken cohorts in the Senate and House, blindly follow his every command.
WE, THE PEOPLE, MUST LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD!!! We cannot sit idly by and think that others will take care of what is happening to our once Proud and Beautiful country.
If we don’t, then we have only ourselves to blame. Do you all really want some bureauocrat running our healthcare?
You know that seniors and the very young will be denied services, don’t you?? That means you, or your Moms and Dads, and your infants and toddlers, may not get the medical services they may desperately need.
WE MUST LET OUR REPS HEAR FROM US ON THIS SUBJECT!!!

    • EddieM – you are right on! I am ready to march on DC! I want this evil out of the White House NOW! I am sickened by what this nation is becoming!

    • You think obama is evil wait for term two than you will see pure evil the u.s.constitution,the bill of rights all will be gone.I look for a civil war to brake out if this happens and it will happen you watch.

  13. The Democrats are showing that they’re running out of steam, so they grabbing bits and pieces that will harm our Nation. They’ve already demonstrated that they disregard our Constitution, our rights and our freedoms. They actually show an intense hate for the Country in which they reside. They’re becoming a pathetic bedraggled bunch of robots!

  14. ALL of the dems will vote to repeal DOMA because Nancy will punish them if they don’t. This is what one dem said about having to vote for, what she admitted privately, was the horrible Obamacare. Dems put their own interests ahead of what is best for the nation.

  15. Marriage is a sacrament, it is between a man and a woman which is sanctified by the Lord. Homosexuals wish to defile this blessed sacrament, it mocks God (maybe unintentional), and in doing so it cheapens my commitment to my wife. I will not allow that without a fight.

    • Every religion defines marriage differently, and since your religion isn’t everyone else’s, your definition isn’t everyone else’s, either.

Every American is entitled to the same civil marriage rights as every other American; the Constitution already guarantees that.

Civil marriage can’t be denied millions of citizens just because other citizens have religious superstitions that breed fear, ignorance, and bigotry.

Anyone who thinks his own marriage gets “cheapened” whenever other people get married his much bigger problems than just a cheap marriage. Federal courts asked for evidence to show how one marriage could possibly affect another, and no such evidence was offered by anyone, after which DOMA was ruled unconstitutional.

      • You make a grave error when you make broad, unfounded, unsupported statements and assume that religion is the only factor involved here. Now you’re choosing to call it “civil marriage”? Would this “civil marriage” be defined by you as one sodomite + another sodomite?

“Civil marriage can’t be denied millions of citizens just because other citizens have religious superstitions that breed fear, ignorance, and bigotry.”

Now this statement tries to force the assumption that the traditional definition of marriage is based on religion. Maybe in some people’s minds, but it isn’t. Since you atheist liberals claim that America was founded as a secular country, why was there no same-sex marriage, (or civil marriage as you’re now calling it) back when this country was founded?

Your “federal courts” ploy is a joke with the inclusion of “no such evidence was offered by anyone”, since probably the “anyone” you’re referring to were all liberals. Any such court is CORRUPT and INVALID, and the very existence of such a court is unconstitutional. This will soon be corrected.

  16. These democrats are the same ones who pushed Obamacare through and have refused to pass a budget but have time to continue to undermine the traditional values of this country. Same sex marriage may be in vogue among journalists, academics and the democrat party but it is not approved of among most of the American people. Vote all democrats out in 2012.

    • Read the latest polls among the top news organizations, and you’ll learn that support for same-sex marriage now rises about 5% more every year, and that today more Americans support marriage equality than oppose it.

  17. Yes, America!

We allowed the vile liberals-communists-Islamists-fascists etc. to convince us that the Iraq war was all the fault of George Bush and the Republicans. We drank up the “Hate George Bush” elixir and in the resultant stupepified state ignored ALL the obvious DANGER signs on the road to the voting boothes. The Obamanation TOLD us that he intended to FUNDAMENTALLY change this great country. We paid no attention and voted this Mohammad Atta into the White House as our PRESIDENT. Yes, we stationed the mongoose in the chicken coop. Now, here we are, wondering how it is that the chickens are no more!

The Lord God of the USA is giving us one great opportunity to HALT this insanity for the sake of our children and generations to follow. ONE ONLY! In November 2012 ALL we have to do is just vote wherever you see an ” R “. In this way we get rid of ALL the ” Ds ” meaning the DAMNED DEMOCRATS. All of them vote blindly in support the Muslim sitting in the White House. LET US CLEAN HOUSE! This is our ONE chance.

    • Actually Jason, if he doesn’t win it he will buy it, just like last time. there are people in this country out of work and he could care less. He is doing just what the guys pulling his strings want him to do and if he spends the next year in office,he or should I say they will have accomplished their deed.

  18. Congradulations all of you who are for repealing this. This is what the Anti-Christ is all about. Think twice before you try to eliminate Gods Institution of Marriage. In the end, God will Eliminate you forever. Its time to Repent…Without Gods Word, I can guarantee you are not seeking him and his Kingdom, I pray that people will change.

  19. Don’t stop praying! That is the only way to get our country back on track. God is waiting to hear from us. Please ask him to help direct our beautiful America in His way…We must PRAY! It is never too late! PRAY!

  20. bigotry: intolerance toward those who hold different opinions from oneself.

marriage: a contract between two people.

Please, none of you should be bringing God into this. Jesus himself would probably be ashamed at all of you who are judging and then calling yourself Christians.

Whether or not you feel that two men should be together, MARRIAGE IS A GOVERNMENT CONTRACT. IF YOU FEEL THAT IT IS NOT RIGHT RELIGIOUSLY FOR TWO MEN TO DO SO, THEN DON’T ALLOW THEM TO DO IT IN A CHURCH.

Talk about voting blindly for the “Muslim” in office? And voting for all Republicans ISN’T voting blindly??

If America goes up in flames, it will not be because of homosexuals, it will be because of our endless wars and killing, everything in excess, greed, materialism, judging, bigotry (perpetuated by this website), hate, sloth, gluttony, overconsumption, etc.

IT IS NOT OUR JOB TO CONDEMN OTHERS, THAT IS UP TO GOD, IT IS OUR JOB TO FOLLOW GOD IN THE BEST WAY THAT WE CAN. This does not include hating others, discriminating, intolerance, etc. Separate church and state for 5 seconds. This country may have been founded on Christianity, but not everyone is Christian these days!

I have never seen so much ignorance and hate. You all should really be ashamed of yourselves. If not, then please stop calling yourself a Christian.

  21. I’m proud to live in a country where it’s perfectly legal for consenting adults to marry each other regardless of gender identity. Nothing bad happened to us when the laws changed in 2003, and we’re actually doing a bit better than the States right now.

If your religion does not permit same-sex relationships, well, I disagree, but it’s your religion and your right. But to impose that on other people, and particularly to ask that the laws of the land reflect your religious beliefs, is another thing altogether. In a country that guarantees freedom of religion, that’s very hard to justify.

  23. Marriage existed before the founding of world’s major religions and before the founding of America. It is an advantage to our society that the major religions recognize and honor marriage as the union of husband and wife. It is not the disadvantage that SSM supporters (SSMers) might portray but their portrayal strongly suggests a profound hostility toward religions and religious people.

The religious among the SSMers or among those sitting on the fence should really take note of the anti religious bigotry in the pro SSM campaign and its rhetoric.

Meanwhile DOMA is good law which has been backed by the vast majority of states where state level DOMAs and marriage amendments have been approved. In fact more liberals and moderates, together, have voted for such state marriage measures than have conservatives, in absolute numbers. And more Democrats and Independents than Republicans. Support for marriage has thus been expressed by voters acrss the ideological and party lines. The leadership of the parties likewise (until very, very, very recently. among Democrats)

None of that would have had time and opportunity to be expressed if not for DOMA. Opinion surveys show that about sixty percent of American voters strongly and reliably support marriage as the union of husband and wife. The law both expresses public support and teaches the correct view of real marriage. SSM gets mostly soft support because ot teaches a vague and untrue notion about marriage and about marriage supporters.

The SSMer earlier who claimed domestic partnership and civil union among his count of SSM states, well, he was trying to pad the numbers for SSM But if his count is good by him, then, there ought to be no need for merging such officialised partnership schemes with marriage law. Yet it was domestic partnership that was used against marriage in places like California (as well as in Canada and Holland and so forth) where SSM has been imposed or enacted.

DOMA is good law and very much defensible in court. The issue will be settled for at least a couple of generations if we retain DOMA and also add a federal marriage amendment. Much longer when the US Supreme Court rejects the SSM constitutional challenge to the Califoria marrriage amendment.

SSMers used to say they were more or less okay with DOMA because it played politically to their advantage in the very few states that were vulnerable to having SSM imposed through the courts and where passing marriage measures by direct vote was very difficult procedurally. Thier state by state strategy has reached its limit. Hence the direct attack against DOMA.

If SSM is imposed as in MA or in Canada then all marriages will be treated as SSM. That means the government’s hands will be shackled and the law and policy will treat all unons of husband and wife as if each lacked eiter a husband or a wife. That effects all marriages.

Also the core meaning of marriage would be demoted from its preferential status to a barely tolerated status. Indeed if DOMA is abolished and we do not pass a federal marriage amendment, expect thwe SSMers to be aggressively true to the dogmatic wods. They will treat all dissenters as the moral and lawful equivalent of virulent racists. That is the unjust purpose of their unjust means. Believe them. They mean it.

Our children will be taught about unarriage. That is they will be handicapped by the loss of even the word for talking about the idea of marriage. They will be taught that true marriageis bigoted and that it does not merit the name marriage. This will the Governmewnt against the People, gainst freedom of conscience (what gives the vote its legitimacy and what give our form of governance its raison d’etre), and turn honorable professions like teaching and publc service and medicine and so forth … turn all of that against religious liberty by way of certification limitations. That is just the tip of the iceberg.

None of that can be good for the country.

That sheds harsher light on the anti religous theme tha truns through the SSMer’s comments earlier.
